WHO WE ARE

Pasodos Dance Company was founded by Laura Macias and Gavin De Paor over 10 years ago in Dublin, Ireland. Their first full length production, The Tango Spell, was a resounding success culminating in the presentation of the show at the Edinburgh Festival in 2003. The award winning work received some wonderful critics and a front page appearance on the national broadsheet The Scotsman. The show was subsequently invited to the Earthquake International Dance Festival in Northern Ireland to appear alongside world-famous companies like American Ballet Theater, Scottish Ballet, Zurich Ballet and Dance Theater of Harlem.

Pasodos premiered on Mallorca in 2004 and have since grown to become the premier dance company based on the Balearic Islands. Their numerous productions have toured all of the major theaters on Mallorca as well as outdoor performances in the stunning locations the island has to offer. The company has represented the Balearic Islands in two major Spanish festivals and in 2007 premiered a work called Sorry Love by renowned Irish writer and director, Joe O'Byrne. The production toured extensively in Europe, appearing in 5 festivals including a return to the Edinburgh Festival that year.

Laura Macias graduated from the Rambert Ballet School in London and danced in State Theaters throughout Germany for most of her career. Gavin De Paor trained at the Perm State Choreographic Institute, danced in 2 major Russian companies, became a founder member of Ballet Ireland and then met Laura in Flensburg, Germany. Prior to forming their own company, the directors of Pasodos danced major roles in all of the classics and worked with numerous renowned choreographers.

In 2008 Pasodos opened their own dance studios to house the company and offer top level classes to local budding talent. The following year Pasodos produced MIDS: the Mallorca International Dance Seminar. Now in its fourth year MIDS has gone from strength to strength by offering local, national and international students the opportunity to train with internationally acclaimed teachers and perform alongside stars of the ballet world.

Pasodos now produces an average of 2 new works per season and runs 3 productions in their annual repertoire. In 2010 the company presented their first Nutcracker, touring state theaters with a cast of 40 performers. The show opened the 2011 season in the Principal Theatre of Palma. The christmas performances were a huge hit and will form part of the company's ongoing annual repertoire for the foreseeable future. The pipeline project for 2011/12 is a production designed for kids based on the comic strip hero Popeye.

The current production run of 7 Deadly Sins will also continue its successful tour into 2012.
