
Class Description — Modern & Contemporary

These classes are designed for the young child as an introduction the concepts of jazz and contemporary dance. These classes are a wonderful way for the young child to become acquainted with the format and structure of a dance class. Class time will be spent to establish body awareness, muscle development, flexibility, coordination and basic locomotor skills. This class focuses on exploration of dance concepts such as use of space, directions, rhythm and musicality.

The higher level classes are designed to develop jazz and contemporary dance technique. Focusing on fundamental jazz positions, turns, runs, kicks and jumps. Time is spent in the center where the exercises, as well as proper stretching techniques, enhance strength, musicality, and flexibility.

The class is focused towards young dancers with a natural progression for dancers who have come through the Modern Dance program to move into Contemporary Dance. Older students studying in the Classical Ballet program are also encouraged to partake to broaden their versatility and artistic vision.
